Australian slang, have you heard these before?!

Australian slang, Australian slang, Australian slang
As you probably all know by now I did a working holiday in Australia back in 2014 so it doesn’t surprise you that after a year there you get the hang of their slang.

But getting the hang of these words does this mean you are an Australian now?! Let’s ask our Aussie friends.

Here are a couple of slang/words that you will recognize when you have been in Australia for quit some time. These are also the ones I used the most.

♦ When you start to greet people with G’day instead of Hello.

♦ When you start greeting friends and strangers with G’day Mate.

♦ When you say let’s meet at Macca’s instead of Mc Donald’s.

♦ When you say you are going to Woolies instead of Woolworth’s.

♦ When you understand what they mean when they ask what you want them to throw on the Barbie for you. (BBQ)

♦ When you don’t look up anymore when they call their flip-flops thongs.Australian slang

♦ When you ask for a cuppa instead for a cup of tea.

♦ When you start to call football or any other ball sport footy.

♦ When you like the name fairy floss more than cotton candy.

♦ When you start to say you are in ‘Straya instead of Australia.

♦ When you start to say tomato sauce instead of ketchup and get laughed at with the way you say tomato sauce.

♦ When you say good on ya instead of well done or good for you.

♦ When you start to call any kind of candy lollies.

♦ When you start saying cheers instead of thank you.

Of course there are many more Australian slang but these are the ones I used or heard the most while in Australia.
